Scouting game and wildlife with the Stealth Cam Prowler Hd Digital Trail Camera has never been more advanced.
Stealth Cam's Prowler Hd Digital Video Scouting Recorder with features full Hd video footage recording as well as an 8Mb Still camera. The expedient also stamps time/date/moon phase and temperature on each file to give invaluable field information. As well as recording video and stills the Prowler records full audio.
With 54 infrared emitters, the Prowler Hd can capture night images and subjects out to 40 feet. It has adjustable video recording times. (from five seconds to five minutes)
How to Set up your Prowler Hd
The Stealth Cam Prowler comes in the box with a belt strap, instructions and a data exchange lead. You will need 6 decent capability C cell batteries, and a Sd memory card which you can purchase a 4 Gig one for about £7.00. Running the camera at full resolution with a 4Gb card will give you 1600 high res 3400x2550 still shots or 112 Hd video clips.
Positioning the Camera
It is recommended that you mount the camera 5ft from the ground with the lens pointing at a tiny downward angle. Be meticulous of the rising sun and position your camera so that it is facing North or South, and clear any foliage from in front of the lens. Feed the strap through the camera, there are two "belt loops" on the back of the expedient and wrap the straps round a tree or post but don't tighten them just yet.
Direct the camera so that it is facing the area you wish to cover with the Ir. Avoid placing the camera towards a rising or setting sun as it can cause overexposure of the shots. Slide the camera to the side of the tree, and look through the viewfinder at the top of the camera to check the area the lens will cover.
When happy tighten up the straps, and lock the belt through the buckle to make a tight fit. For small ground game a wooden wedge located at the top of the camera will make the lens point towards the ground more, covering the ground area better.
Testing the Operation
1. Once you are happy with the cameras positioning, open up the camera body, and turn the camera on.
2. Press the Test button, the camera will then enter a 1 tiny countdown mode, time sufficient to leave the coverage area.
3. Walk through your aimed capture area, ensuring that the Pir picks up your presence, this is indicated by a green Led illuminating.
4. I use Millie my lab pup as a test dog, but asking her to walk past the camera, checking that it picks up a smaller object, rather than a 15 stone human!
5. When you are happy that the positioning of the camera is sufficient to cover the area you require, you are ready to begin.
Programming the Camera for Operation
1. When you have completed the Test operation, you are ready to set up the camera. You should decree nearby now if you wish to capture video footage or still shots. Remember you can have a burst mode of 1-9 sequential images in still mode!
2. Open up the camera, and insert your blank Sd card in the Sd card slot on the side of the internal camera body.
3. Turn the camera On and following your manual, set the camera for whether Camera or Video mode. You also need to set the duration of the video, or the amount of shots you wish the camera to take at once. In video mode you can have the camera operating in Hd, D1 or Vga mode, with Hd being the best capability but less image quantity per card. In Camera mode you can choose High, Low or Base resolution, of course as with video, the lower the resolution means the more images you can fit on a memory card. We set the video duration to 20 seconds and the time out to 1.
4. The Time Out setting allows you to tell the Stealth Cam how long it should "sleep" in the middle of triggering. This should be set quite low if you are using a large capacity memory card, as there is nothing worse than a deer curious into shot, then out of shot for a moment, to return to graze in front of a sleeping trail camera, that doesn't wake up again for 10minutes, in which time the deer has hot footed it to new pastures.
5. You should also set up the time, and date at this stage, which is quite crucial when reviewing the video footage at a later date.
6. At the end of each program set up selection, you may press Menu to exit and return to the camera status read screen. You now have 60 seconds to close up the camera, and to get out of the Pir zone.
7. Production sure you fasten both clasps firmly, close up the camera and leave the area, the camera is now ready to capture movement of animals.
8. At night the Infra red will illuminate.
9. While the day you will get colour images.
Returning to the camera
When you return to the camera, you can right away see if it has been triggered by the counter on the front.
If you are lucky you will have captured whether still or video footage of wildlife or passers-by.
1. The Stealth Cam Prowler Hd comes complete with a cable to download to your Pc, however this means detaching the camera and taking it home with you. Its best to have two Sd cards, so you can keep one empty to swap over, and replace the full Sd card.
2. We have two Sd cards, so open up the camera, and turn off the camera.
3. Remove the existing Sd card, replacing it with an additional one empty card, make any changes to the menu you need such as resolution or time etc, and then ensuring the camera is turned on, close it up ready for the next day.
Downloading your footage
1. We took our Prowler back to our desks and removed the Sd card ready to download.
2. Remove the Sd card, and then insert it into your laptop card reader. If your Pc doesn't have a built in Sd slot, you can buy a Usb card reader for a few pounds.
3. When you have inserted the card, your Pc will read the information.
4. Open up the portfolio containing the files on the Sd card, and you can view the photos or video on your desktop or save them for a later date, or even upload them to You Tube to share with the world.
